Tim Petersen and his two kids, Jeremy and Trevar, founded Wild Calling Pet Food in 2012. The northern Colorado family had previously worked in the pet food market before starting Wild Calling. Tim ran his own pet food distribution company, and his sons helped out during the summer.
In its business philosophy and marketing, Wild Calling claims to have drawn inspiration from the Wild West. “We’re open, honest, and truthful,” executive vice president Jeremy Petersen said when questioned about these western characteristics by Pet Product News. We’re not attempting to deceive anyone. When you think of a cowboy or someone from the West, you think of honesty; it’s the mentality of an honest business person. “
Is Wild Calling still in operation?
Wild Calling has closed its doors after nearly eight years on the market.
This isn’t the first time it’s been taken off the market. The company declared bankruptcy in October of 2017. The brand was briefly phased out, but Barkstrong, LLC stated in mid-2018 that it had purchased Wild Calling Pet Food.
The purchase kept Wild Calling afloat until Barkstrong, LLC filed for bankruptcy in the spring of 2019. According to an article in Pet Business, the company’s owner, A.K. Sands, died, and the family decided to dissolve the company rather than continue without him.

Salmon, Grain-Free Adult Canned Cat Food
This recipe contains 96% beef and liver. The primary protein source in Jumping Salmon is salmon, while the liver comes from a chicken. Natural flavor—which the firm claims refer to the natural juices of the food’s protein ingredients—a variety of thickeners, sunflower oil as a source of fat, and vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that make each meal nutritionally complete make up the rest of the formula.
The food is thickened with a trio of thickeners, all of which are plant-based and none of which are species-specific. Guar gum, cassia gum, and xanthan gum are among the ingredients. Though guar gum might cause digestive problems in cats if they eat too much of it, and xanthan gum can induce an allergic reaction if it’s contaminated with residues of the fermentation medium, none of these components appear to be very toxic to cats.
Rabbit & Sweet Potato Recipe Grain-Free Dry Cat Food

This grain-free kibble, which is part of Wild Calling’s food, a small dry cat food line, is made with rabbit as the only animal protein source. Fresh rabbit and rabbit meals are both heavily featured in the ingredient list. Later, starchy binders such as sweet potatoes, lentils, tapioca, and dried peas are added to the diet.
The main fat source for the dish is turkey fat, with a tiny bit of coconut oil. Dried seaweed meal, a source of extra vitamins and minerals, probiotics, and a variety of synthetic vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, rounds out the ingredient list.
